Dear Matthew,

I hope to see you soon.
Jim
September 2 was National
Beheading Day. Glad we missed it!
September 6 was Fight
Procrastination Day, but I’m just now getting around to reporting it.
September 8: I
returned from a trip to
September 19
is International
Talk Like a Pirate Day.
September is Classical
Music Month, to celebrate the best music from the last thousand years or
so; it is also National Piano
Month. Pianos are such noble instruments; they’re either upright or grand.
October 29, 30, and 31, I
will be out of town for Fossilmania.
Honestly, is it possible to have too many trilobites?
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. For information
about breast self-massage, breast self-exams, breast massage by a massage
therapist, please see my
website. (http://tranquilitytime.com/morebreasts.htm)
October is also Eat Country Ham Month
and National
Vegetarian Month, so it should come as no surprise that it is Sarcastic
Month as well.
I
want to thank you for your business by sharing this complimentary issue of Body
Sense magazine. It is published by ABMP,
the Associated Bodywork and Massage Professionals.
www.abmp.com/bodysense/autumn-winter-2010
Body Sense provides valuable information about how to make massage and bodywork
a part of your healthy lifestyle. Inside you’ll find helpful articles on the
benefits of massage, popular modalities, and an interview with Dr. Andrew Weil.
I am happy to discuss any of the information you find inside at your next appointment.
A special full-color Summer
Supplement is still available HERE as a PDF
file.
I have no more long trips scheduled this
year. However, I will be out of town on October 29-31 for Fossilmania, a fossil
show at which I hope to find good homes for the fossils in my collection.
My teaching schedule at Sterling Health Center is usually light, but for the next several weeks my morning and evening class schedules intersect. That means I’ll be hard to get on Monday and Wednesday mornings and Tuesday and Thursday nights.
After a two-week trial of a linen
service, my clients have spoken, and the consensus was a resounding “yeah,
fine, whatever.” So from now on we will have crisp, white, hospital-clean
sheets on the massage table.
It’s a shame to lose the slap-happy hippy-dippy ambiance to which you have become accustomed, but these sheets are reported to be quite soft and comfortable.
If you still use full sheet draping, I
recommend giving towel draping a try:
It’s faster than full sheet
draping, so I spend more time doing massage and less time folding and tucking.
A traditional full-sheet drape uses up 6 to 10 minutes
of massage time.
My Esalen techniques work
better with towel draping because it allows better access for those long,
flowing full-body strokes.
Towel draping feels a little less secure than full sheet draping. I don’t believe that the difference is great, but it may feel less secure, particularly on some of those pretzel-stretches for your hips. If you like the snug secure feeling of a full drape, then by all means, stick with it.
From now on I plan to dress the table with both a full sheet and a towel, and leave it up to the client as to how they wish to be draped that day.
Here’s a reminder about all the free stuff that’s available with your massage. Just ask for it!
And these days, who doesn’t want to save money? Read all about it by clicking here.
