Massage
CEU Classes for Dallas, Richardson, Plano, Garland, and nearby Texas cities.
Classes:
I am a Texas
pre-approved continuing education provider. (License numbers
MI2067 and CE1293.) I teach at
Sterling Health Center,
and
I occasionally teach some courses at my own facility.
Although I enjoy giving these CE
courses, I recently decided that marketing them was taking
too much time away from my first love: massage. Therefore I
am no longer scheduling courses in advance.
If you would like individual
instruction, please call me to schedule your course. All
courses are $25/CE hour. If your license is about to expire
and your are down to the wire, then scheduling your CE hours
at your own convenience makes sense.
The classes below have been well
received. If you are looking for something else, please ask.

Anatomy in Clay
These
classes are appropriate for massage therapists,
artists, nurses, physical therapists, or anyone who
wishes to brush up on their anatomy.
We
massage therapists are tactile people by nature. We
like to touch. We learn by touching. And we all know
that trying to learn the muscles from a flat
two-dimensional textbook is a recipe for frustration
with a side-order of confusion. This class combines
the joy and discovery of your kindergarten years
with a tactile, three-dimensional, highly technical
learning experience. We will sculpt the major
muscles in modeling clay, attach them to an 18”
plastic skeleton and by doing so, learn their
origins, insertions, actions, names, and more.
If you already know your anatomy, you’re sure to
have at least a few epiphanies and jaw-dropping
moments. (“Oh! THAT’S how it works!”)
If anatomy is new to you, this is surely the easiest
and most fun way to learn it.
It is
recommended that both classes be taken as a unit.

Business for Massage Students
This course is a discussion of the practical
aspects of running a massage business.
At Sterling Health Center, I regularly teach the 45 hour unit on Business, Ethics, and
Texas law required by the State of Texas for the
current 500 hour massage school curriculum. This
course is a summary of the parts that are useful to LMTs who have finally decided to start their own
business.

Massage and Texas Law
On January 1 of 2009, everything changed.
Are you up to date on how these changes affect
you and your practice? Does your client intake
document conform to the new requirements? Do you
need a review? Are you ready to take the Texas
jurisprudence exam that the state now requires
before you can apply for any kind of massage
license?
Here's a free tip:
Did you know that DSHS no
longer depends on a few overworked
inspectors for enforcement? Now any local
cop, state trooper, or other peace officer
can inspect your facility for compliance
with the law.
In this course we'll hit the high points that
often trip up unwary massage therapists, and show
you where and how to look the details information up
when you need it.

Stretch Your Client!
Clients love stretches! They feel great, they
lengthen muscles that are otherwise hard to reach,
they are a critical part of any trigger point
massage, and they are easy on your hands. We'll talk
about basic points, like client and therapist
safety, and advanced topics like proprioceptive
neuromuscular facilitation.

Advanced Relaxation Massage
As professionals, we sometimes get so hung up on
technique that we forget the essentials of touch:
how to approach the human body with reverence, with
respect, and with a nurturing touch. Jim Caddell has
studied at the Esalen Institute at Big Sur, CA, and
will present some of the basic ideas that have made
many want to call Esalen "home."
The resulting massage is calm, gentle, slow, and deeply
relaxing; a massage that helps to ease client
holding patterns and bring about a profound feeling
of peace... for the practitioner as well as the
client.
If you are curious about Esalen techniques, this
course will make you hungry for more, which is only
to be had at
The
Esalen Institute.
Bring:
Sheets
Bath towel
Oil or lotion from the slippery end of the
friction spectrum
Jim Caddell has studied
massage at The Esalen Institute, and has
been a proponent of Esalen massage since the
1980s.
The
grounds at Esalen are beautiful! To see

Meridian Mnemonics
Traditional Chinese Medicine utilizes a system of
12 meridians, a series of channels through which the
qi life energy flows. This class will give you a set
of memory tricks to easily memorize the unique
combination of properties associated with each
meridian:
Organ
Time of day
Element
Where it begins
Where it ends
The direction of flow
The side of the body where it can be found
Whether it is associated with yin or yang,
light or dark, and much more.
Although it is not possible to learn the 2000+
acupressure points dotting these meridians in a 4
hour class, or much less how to use them, this class
is a good basis from which to begin your studies of
Traditional Chinese Medicine.

The Endocrine System
This
is the info you thought you weren't
going to need back in massage school! But now
clients are showing up with all sorts of glandular
problems, and they expect you to know what it
all means so you can treat them safely. And
let's face it: the endocrine system is confusing and
we all need a refresher course from time to time.
We'll cover the major the major glands and
hormones, what they do, what can go wrong with them
and what that looks like, and contraindications.

Infant
Massage.
This class is appropriate for and geared to
parents, grandparents, and other infant
caregivers. Massage therapists can receive CEU
credits for the class as well.
Although it’s fun and rewarding to massage other
people’s babies, the primary purpose of this class is to
teach parents how to bond with, communicate
with, calm, and soothe their own babies. The
relationship between a parent and baby is
enhanced and strengthened through the nurturing
touch of infant massage. Parent’s often find
that their baby sleeps better, fusses less, and
gains more weight, when massaged regularly.
A baby’s world is all about touch, and this
course is intended to help you share your
child’s world more effectively. It’s fun for
you; it’s fun for your baby!
Sorry! We
will not be using real babies in this course, so
leave your little one with grandma. Or bring
grandma and leave junior with Auntie!

Chocolate will be provided
This course is intended to teach couples how
to give a safe, relaxing, pleasant amateur
massage. It will not qualify you to be a
massage therapist, and CEU credits are not
offered since a licensed massage therapist would
not need this course.
Massaging your partner can be a warm, sensuous,
romantic way to foster intimacy through loving
touch. This course will be a few hours of unique
quality time with your mate, learning how to give
each other a safe, relaxing massage. Is there a
better anniversary gift than the gift of touch?
Sheets,
tables, and oil will be provided. There will be
light refreshments. You will need to bring swim suits or underwear that
you don’t mind getting a little oil on. Although
you will not be naked for this class, you will need
to use a drape (top sheet) for warmth, privacy, and
comfort.
Obvious
things I have to say anyway:
Sorry, but we will not be discussing
sexual techniques; if you can’t figure those out
on your own, I’ll tell you where to buy the
videos.
